You have questions. I have answers!
A great DJ can mean the difference between an exceptional evening or just another so-so event. I want you to have all the information you need to make this important decision. The following are some of the most common questions I’ve heard over the years. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I’ve been to events where the DJ is cheesy and the music is predictable. Do we have to worry about that?
Definitely not! I understand that you want your event to be unique, elegant and fun. I am professional, fun and inspiring. Not scripted or cheesy.
Do you have cocktail hour and dinner music that’s NOT elevator music?
Yes! I have a large library of cool, classy, eclectic cocktail and dinner music, and can discuss your preferences in advance to make sure my selections meet your expectations.
Can we preview your DJ skills?
I am happy to provide references from past brides and grooms and set up an interview with me. Due to privacy concerns, I don’t have the right to invite future clients to my current clients’ events.
Can I meet you before I decide to hire you?
While not always a necessity, a face-to-face meetings can be arranged in advance of your event if you'd like. I also work with out-of-state clients and from time to time a Skype meeting or phone interview is also possible.
Can we have a “don’t play” list?
Yes. The “Do not play” songs are as important as your request list.
Do you also act as our emcee (announcing toasts, first dance, cutting of cake)?
Yes. I plan the evening with you in advance and then walk you and your guests through every step of your event. But if preferred, I can be as minimally involved on the microphone if you like.
Do you provide wireless microphones for speeches?
Yes. Professional-quality wireless microphones are available.
Will my DJ dress according to the dress code of my event? Yes.
What time will the DJ arrive to our event?
I’ll arrive 15 minutes prior to the contracted dance start time. I’ll set up for in-town dances earlier in the day so everything is ready to go. For out-of-town dances I will arrive 2 hours prior to your event to ensure everything is set up and ready to go.
What do you need the venue/client to provide?
I require electricity within 25 feet of DJ area. If your event is outside, I require ample shading, power source nearby, and protection from inclement weather.
Do you need to see the room you’ll be working in before the day of my event?
No. I am a trained professional and am able to work with virtually any space.
Will our DJ need a break? If so, what happens during this time?
Music plays continuously. If a meal is offered, your DJ will queue up a few songs that will play continuously, eat quickly, and then return to his station.
How many hours will our DJ play?
That’s up to you! I’ll play till 5 am if you want me to!
Do you have a backup plan in case of DJ illness or family emergency?
While these instances are very rare, I always have an extra DJ on standby.
Do you have a backup plan in case of equipment malfunction?
My equipment is state-of-the-art and carefully maintained—but we always have a backup system available, too.
How far ahead should we book your services?
6 months is usually the minimum, but it’s best to book a year or more in advance. There are also instances where I can be booked with little notice if I have an opening.
Can we change our booking time when we get closer to our event date? For example, if we book you for five hours, can we change that to four or more hours closer to the date of our event?
You are welcome to adjust your times prior to your event and it’s common to do so as your date approaches.
Do you use a written contract? Yes.
What is your deposit requirement?
I require $200 down with that going toward the total price of your dance. This reserves your date.
When is the final payment due?
Two weeks prior to the event date.
