          About Me

Hello, my name is Nate Callens. I graduated from MSU in Moorhead, MN with a degree in Mass Communications in 2001. I had a double emphasis in Broadcasting and Advertising. Ever since I can remember, I have always known that I wanted to be a DJ. Even in high school people were telling me they wanted me to DJ their weddings someday. Way back then I knew I wanted to DJ. This is the story of how I got to where I am today...

I started my journey in the DJ world about 14 years ago, when I graduated from Shanley High School. I sent a demo tape to The FOX radio station here in Fargo. I had no experience and taped a bunch of fake radio sketches on a boombox in my basement. They gave me a position as an unpaid intern, running the soundboard in the studio during live broadcasts. I also dressed up as Maynard, the FOX mascot at live events. I took my fair share of abuse doing that!  After awhile, they put me on the air during the syndicated broadcasts on Sunday mornings and evenings.  It was fun.  At this same time, I was doing radio shows twice a week at KMSC, the MSU student-run radio station. Some of my best times in college were at that station, having almost total freedom over what to play and what we could say. It was a blast. It was a freedom I didn't have in corporate radio!  Eventually,  I graduated from college and had various other jobs while still keeping my part-time position at the FOX. After about 5 years of that, I was ready to start something new.

I got a job at a DJ Company here in Fargo and worked for them for three years, learning all I could about the DJ business and performing. It was there I realized I thrive on playing music for a live crowd, interacting with them, and seeing them having fun. Eventually,  I decided I would like to work for myself and my own customers. A great opportunity came along and I started my own company. Taking what I had learned in my life by doing radio and live deejaying and seeing others do this very interesting and fun profession, I embarked on a journey of being self-employed, bringing music and fun to my own customers and friends. Boss DJ Services was born.
